The Ruby variety of Loropetalum chinense is a quickly-growing evergreen shrub that adds dramatic color and beauty to any landscape. This selection blooms in early spring and late winter, when it boats its signature dark pink flowers.
Loropetalum chinense ‘Ruby’ is an arching, adaptable shrub, growing successfully in Zones 7-10 but fully thriving in areas with full sunlight and some afternoon shade.
This selection is non-tolerant of permanent cold conditions, so those wishing to plant the Ruby in said regions must protect it from wind. Mature height and width range from six to eight feet, and recommended spacing is four to six feet.
Besides being grown for its foliage, its most common uses include screens and borders but can also be used in foundation plantings and woodland gardens. The Ruby has functioned as a decorative screen to hide air conditioning units.
The Pizazz, also commonly called Chinese Fringeflower, is a low-maintenance shrub that is pleasing in all seasons and will attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
